Like the flowers in a garden, sapphire comes in many colors. Blue, followed by pink, are the most popular colours.
Fine pink sapphires regularly command top prices, purple sapphires are often heat-treated to achieve a more valuable pink or red hue. Recent years have seen an increase in the supply of yellow and orange sapphires from East Africa. Green sapphire is readily available. Colorless sapphire is sometimes marketed as a natural substitute for diamond.
